Benchmark Labs’ CEO and co-founder is Dr. Gaitan. His doctoral work was done at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. He worked with William Hsieh on machine learning applications for environmental science. A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, and a Master’s degree in Hydrosystems are also his qualifications from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota (Colombia). He is an elected member of the American Meteorological Society’s (AMS) Artificial Intelligence Committee. He previously worked at early stage start-ups in the environmental science space, including VP of Weather Forecasting  and Head of Data Science at Arable Labs, and as Research Scientist at the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) in Princeton, New Jersey.
